Kayden and Zac

Chapter 2 – Enter Brad

***Zac***

I went through two weeks of shit. My classes were all right, but everywhere I went, people stared at me and my friends. It didn't really bother me. People are always staring, no matter what, but lately they had been staring with smirks on their faces.      I didn't find out about the rumors until someone shouted an insult to me. I don't know how people found out about my mom, but that pissed me off. Sometimes, people are too nosey and they get into other people's business.

It all came to a stop in just one day. It was like things were back to the way they had been. Lenne and Mai were suspiciously giddy, though. I couldn't tell what that was about, and neither could anyone else. I asked Shin, and all that dude did was grin. If Mai told him anything, she probably told him to keep his mouth shut about it.

Three of us were in our usual before-school place. Scott was missing and Jett and Lenne were running late, as well as Mai and Shin. Knowing my two Asian friends, they were probably being lovey dovey in some corner of the school. It seemed like the closer February fourteenth came, the more they acted like fools in love.

That left Kayden, Maya and me to hold our fort, also known as our table.

"So, you guys have any plans for Thursday?" Maya asked.

Thursday was Valentine's Day. I really didn't know what was supposed to happen on that day. I know it’s a day for people who’re in love, but I didn't know if Kayden did stuff like that, and I was sort of embarrassed to ask.

When neither Kayden nor I replied, Maya stared at us like we’d told her it was the year 1985. She shook her head and was ready to say something, but she couldn't seem to form the words.

"Hey, guys!" Scott said, taking a seat beside his girl. He sneaked a peck to Maya's cheek, but she just kept on looking at us funny.

"Can you believe these two?" Maya said, still not altering her stare. "They didn't make any plans for Thursday!"

I felt like busting out laughing at the way Scott rolled his eyes when Maya said that. When she noticed me, she turned sharply to Scott, who was scratching his head, trying to seem innocent. Maya’s smack to his stomach fixed him good, though.

"Guys, you should do something. We're lucky we don’t have school on Friday. You guys should do something romantic," Maya said.

"Like what?" I asked her. "It's not like I could impress Kayden with flowers." I turned to Kayden and he grinned at me.

"And Zac hates chocolate…so I'm at a dead end," Kayden added.

"You hate chocolate?" Maya asked, looking mortified. It was like I’d told her I’d robbed a bank that morning.

"Yeah, Zac has messed-up taste buds, or something. He'd rather have something that’s cream-filled," Scott said, as he stared at Kayden.

       I felt like dying.

Dammit, Scott. Not in front of Maya, man!

Fortunately, Maya didn't get it. Only Kayden and I understood Scott's comment. He grinned evilly beside his girlfriend.

"Still, you guys could have a nice dinner somewhere or something. Did you guys ever think about checking out clubs? They have all-age nights during the weekends, sometimes. At certain times of the month they have a gay night, too. You guys should check it out," Maya said.

Kayden looked at me painfully. We had already discussed that. We know we aren’t like some gay guys. The gay scene doesn’t really appeal to us. Actually, we don’t really know what the gay scene is. In my mind, it’s a bunch of guys dancing to techno music or something, waving glow sticks in a black-light room. I wasn't too excited about exploring that.

"Okay, from your reactions, probably not. But still, you guys should do something," Scott said.

"Well, what are you two doing?" Kayden asked.

"I don't know. Scott's been pretty secretive about it, so I guess I'm in for a surprise," Maya said, smiling her face off.

Scott was looking mighty proud. Something told me he had the wrong idea, though. I could almost imagine Scott taking Maya to a skate park and calling that romantic.

Without warning, Maya stood and leaned over towards us. I thought she was trying to grab something, but it was actually someone.

I turned and saw the guy she had tapped to get him to turn around. Something about him seemed familiar.

       "Brad!" Maya called out.

The boy smiled a really cute smile after seeing who had called out to him.

"Hi, Maya, how are you this morning?"

"Great! Are you all set for your classes?"

"All set and ready to go. I thought I might just grab some food from the cafeteria."

They continued to chat for a bit and the boy, Brad, finally turned to look at the rest of us. He looked a little surprised when he saw me, and he seemed even more stunned when he saw Kayden.

Scott put his arm possessively around Maya. He had a scowl on his face, which meant he was being very cautious.

Brad turned to him and grinned arrogantly. "Dude, don't worry, I'm not here to steal your girl. You made your point, she's yours."

Scott just returned a leveled stare. I thought Maya was trying hard not to publicly give him a lecture on manners.

"My name is Brad, by the way. Nice to meet you all," he said.

He held out his hand, first to Kayden.

"I'm Kayden Pierce. I think you'll like it here. You’re new, right?"

All of us except Scott laughed at that. He was being his usual self, suspicious of anyone who approaches us.

"Yeah, I'm new. I just moved back here. Been living in the west for a few years," Brad replied.

He turned to me and looked a bit hesitant.

"Wait, I know you!" I exclaimed. "Brad… Brad Canning, right? Man, you went to my elementary school. How the hell have you been, bud?" I said, grabbing his hand and shaking it firmly. "It's me, Zac! Man, you look great. I hardly recognized you. Scott, you remember Brad, right?"

I was way too excited. But, how couldn't I be? I already knew who he was, and he looked great. The Brad I had known was a pretty short, pudgy kid. This new guy was close to six feet tall. The dress shirt fit him nice and snug, and it showed that he really worked out. He was muscular, but not really like Jett. More of a lean, muscular tone.

"Yeah, I remember. We saved your ass in grade seven and we didn't even get a 'thank you'," Scott said bitterly.

       Ugh, Scott, you asshole…

"How could I forget? Scott, right? Looks like you're doing well," Brad said sarcastically as he put his hand out to Scott. He did it almost mockingly, like he was daring Scott to take it.

Scott just smiled back venomously and reached for the shake. They shook, but it looked more like a death grip. Without warning, Scott pulled back with a pissed look on his face. He turned to Maya, who was staring at him, showing irritation. His scowl quickly faded and he looked away and crossed his arms.

"So, what classes do you have?" I asked, trying to make the best of the situation.

"Religion, drama, math, and kinesiology," Brad said, not really looking at me. I didn’t know if he was still a bit pissed at Scott, but he seemed hostile towards me.

"Wait, do you have Mr. Sergeant?" Maya asked.

I don't know why, but something cold ran down my spine. I was so happy to be free of that man.

"Yeah, I think that's what his name is. Why, is he hard?" Brad asked, showing a pretty confident smile.

"Just be careful. The guy is hard, mean, and grumpy, 24/7," Maya warned him. "Lenne is in that class. She can probably help you out if you ask her."

"He ain't a push over, that's for sure," I commented. "Seems like you have drama with me. You'll like our class. We have a pretty fun teacher."

"And you have math with me, third period," Kayden told him.

Brad turned to him and gave an easy smile. "Cool!" he replied.

"And I think Jett has kinesiology, too," Maya noted.

"Nah, he has that first period," I told her.

"Jett goes here? I guess Shin is with you guys, as well," Brad said.

"Yeah, they're not around right now. Don't really know where they are, actually," I told him.

Brad seemed to nod thoughtfully to himself.

"Anyways, I think I should grab some food. I'll see you guys around. And I'll see you two, soon," Brad said. He winked towards Kade and me and turned around. I suppose Scott made him feel like he’d overstayed his welcome.

Kayden and I looked at each other. I had a strange feeling about Brad, but I didn’t know what it was. Something was definitely behind that wink.

Impossible. That guy is straighter than Jett, Scott and Shin.

It was not like I really cared. I’d prefer Kayden any day.

"Scott, what the hell was that about?" Maya said, turning angrily to her boyfriend. She gave him quite a violent shove.

"I don't like him. I don't like how he was looking at you," Scott said, as he shifted away from her. He knew when to tread softly.

Kayden and I watched the exchange with interest. Now it was Maya's turn to roll her eyes. "Oh, grow up! He was just being nice. You didn't have to be an asshole like that. He's new!"

"And he's full of himself and he's up to something," Scott said, convinced.

I turned to Kayden, who shrugged his shoulders. Scott was being worse than he had been when Kayden first showed up.

"Can you even listen to yourself? You sound ridiculous!" Maya complained. Some hair fell in front of her eyes and she quickly stoked it behind her ear. "Why do you get so worked up when someone better looking than you approaches us?"

Scott got red in the face. Not an embarrassed type of red, but the shade he used to become when Maya and him would get on each other's case.

"So, you think he's better looking than me!" Scott accused, nodding his head as if he was making a connection.

"I cannot believe you. You know what? I need to go to my locker. I'll see you guys later." Without another word, Maya got up and left. Scott just stared after her.

"Dude, you're freaking out over this whole thing," I told him. "Simmer down a bit."

"No way, man. I know something’s up. I don't trust Brad. He's nothing but a rich, spoiled brat," Scott said, defending himself.

I had heard before Brad moved away that he was from a pretty wealthy family. I never really knew much about that, but Scott seemed to know more about him than I did.

"Yeah, but you should cool it a bit," Kayden advised. "You're pissing off Maya."

Scott stared at Kayden and then sighed. "She'll get over it, right?"

"If you say so, man. But who are you trying to convince?" Kayden asked.

Scott looked really irritated as he scratched the back of his head. Sometimes he says stuff before thinking things through.

***Lenne***

"Phil!" I said in my sweetest voice as I snuck up behind him.

He closed the book he was looking at and turned around.

"Hey, Lenne," he said as he adjusted his glasses. "What are you doing here?"

"I saw you from outside. Whatcha looking at?"

Phil flipped the book over to show me.

"Whoa! Flight and Aerodynamics. Isn't that a bit advanced?"

"At first, but once you get past the terminology, the theories actually make sense," he whispered.

Mrs. Lisp, the librarian, was looking at us and I immediately knew I had been a little loud with my entrance.

"Anyways," I whispered back, "I want to thank you for the other day. I wouldn't have been able to clear the air if it hadn’t been for you."

"Don’t mention it. I'm just glad I could help. It seems like the rumors suddenly died."

There was always something about Phil that seemed so sad. Sometimes his smile seemed to be hiding a sadness that I couldn't understand. Even when I noticed him brooding over the book in his hand. He looked serious like he was studying, but at the same time a bit sad.

"Oh, it's better than that," I said, hoping I could cheer him up "The girls in my class came to me and apologized. They also talked about shunning Alicia and Megan. I thought that would be cool, but they decided being mean to them wouldn’t do any justice. I kinda agreed with them. It might make Alicia more upset. Anyways, at least no one will take what she says seriously, anymore."

Phil smiled like he was hanging on to my every word.

"I even got Jett some numbers. That guy is going to be so happy!" I added.

"The girl who gets Jett will sure be lucky. He's a really good looking guy," Phil replied.

I thought that was kind of odd. Most guys would not normally admit thoughts like that to anyone else.

"Yeah, seemed like the rumor about him was pretty inaccurate, anyways. It didn't seem to faze him when people made fun of him. I guess, regardless of what everyone thought, he’s really comfortable with himself," I said to him.

Phil looked away, a bit embarrassed. I could understand why. We were talking about someone's genital area.

"What about you? Why don't you go out with him?" Phil asked as we walked towards the checkout desk. Class was going to start in five minutes.

"Nah, he isn't my type," I told him.

"I'm surprised you could even resist him," Phil commented.

I shrugged. He just really isn’t my type.

***Zac***

"All right, class," Mrs. Renolds, our drama teacher, said as she walked in, "we have a new student starting here. He's a week behind, but I don't think he'll have a problem. You were in a drama class last year, correct, Brad?"

"Yeah. Acting is sort of a hobby," Brad mentioned as he crossed his arms. He had his sleeves rolled up and you can see his well-formed arms. I could sense the heat in the room increasing.

"A hobby?" Mrs. Renolds asked as she turned to him.

"Yeah, well, I've done some sport commercials."

Mrs. Renolds’ eyes grew with excitement. "What kind? This is so exciting!"

Brad named several well-known sportswear companies. Even I was impressed. The dude was a real model. I could see why. He looked much older than most kids our age. People could mistake him for an eighteen-year-old.

I took a quick look around the room. I could tell he already had many admirers. Even the girls who were not openly drooling looked at him bashfully. At that moment, I could tell who might be gay, too. I had suspicions about two of the guys in the class. The other guys just looked around like they were bored, waiting for class to start.

"That's amazing," Mrs. Renolds said as she nodded her head. "Well, I guess you'll do very well in this class."

"I hope so," Brad said, showing teeth. It was a smile worthy of note. If I weren’t so taken by Kayden, even I would have looked twice at that guy. He was very good looking, but something about him seemed off. He was different from the Brad I had known in elementary school. He had a new ‘in-your-face’ attitude that was so different from the passive gentleness he had shown back then.

"Well, let's start by having you introduce yourself," the teacher said, taking a seat.

Brad stood with his hands in his pockets and nodded. He calmly looked around as he swayed on the balls of his feet. "Well, my name is Brad Canning. I used to live in Whitby a few years ago. I’ve recently moved back from British Columbia. I'm pretty active, as you can probably tell."

"How many times do you go the gym a week?" a girl called out.

He turned to her with a grand smile, and then looked to the floor as if he was a bit embarrassed. He gave a weak laugh as he bit his bottom lip. "Quite a bit, actually. I try to go every weekday; if not, at least four times a week."

There was a ripple of amazement. That was pretty impressive. The only other guy I know who goes to the gym that often is Jett.

"Anyways, as you already know, I model for some sportswear companies, and I've been in a couple commercials. My dad owns an advertising agency, and that helps, being his son. I love to travel and I love sports. I also like to read, but I’m not too bright academically."

At that point, he grinned. "Well, I can't be perfect, now, can I?"

The whole class laughed at his joke, and several girls giggled in a way I’d never heard from them.

"Yeah, I'm the guy in the science class who falls asleep and never pays attention, so if you need help with homework, I'm not the dude for the job."

I could see some girls’ plans falling apart -- plans of trying to get help from Brad -- but also I could sense plans forming in the minds of some others, like Alicia. This guy was definitely a lady killer.

"So, have I won all your hearts?" he asked, all innocently.

Dude, you have most of the class drinking from the palm of your hand.

The guy was definitely more arrogant that he’d been a few years before. The weird thing was, he had the looks to be able to pull off the act. I knew some girls were put off by his jock attitude, but hell, if they were so put off, why were they sneaking looks at him like they were afraid he'd catch them staring? His attitude was innocently arrogant, if that even makes any sense. He was worse than Scott, in a sense.

"Well, then, I have some good news and some bad news," he continued, with a lopsided smile.

"First off, before you ask, I’m single."

I almost started coughing. Okay, now this is starting to get ridiculous.

Oddly enough, I seemed to be the only one thinking that. I noticed the sparkle in the eyes of almost all the girls in the class. Even the girls who were open about hating the jock attitude were watching him with more attention than I'd ever seen them give Mrs. Renolds.

I looked at our teacher and noticed she was scribbling things furiously on a pad of paper.

"On the other hand, I'm gay, so you all must be pretty disappointed."

The entire room screeched to a halt.

After a series of gasps and ghastly expressions, followed by a series of, "Oh, my God!" and a few, "You're shitting me!" I was suddenly brought back to reality.

       He's gay!?

I looked around the room and noticed several guys staring at Brad with looks that ranged from 'What the fuck?' to 'That's fucking sick'. And even a few 'Wait! He's gay!' looks. It was that, or they just found the fact amusing. The girls murmured continuously like they refused to believe it.

Even Mrs. Renolds was looking up from her pad of paper with a shocked expression. I mean, how many guys come out in class on their first day at their new school? Usually, kids are scared shitless and just want to fade into the background of their new high school until they get a better sense of the atmosphere there. This guy was jumping head first into the lake.

"Now, class, class. Calm down," the teacher said as she stood up. "There's nothing wrong with that. Homosexuality is not anything new. I doubt Brad’s the only one at this school. Let's not make a big deal of this."

I heard a girl whisper, ”What a waste.” It really was…for the girls. But damn, some guy was going to get lucky.

The class erupted again in a series of discussions. Brad just stood at the front, smiling, almost content in the chaos he’d created.

You're some kind of guy, Brad… What happened to you?

"All right, let's get class started," the teacher said. She picked up the note pad and continued, "I was just placing you into teams of two for a little skit I want prepared for next week. I’ve tried to pair up students who don't yet know each other well."

By that time, the class had shut up and the drama teacher was doing her job. I stared at the doorway, wondering where the hell Shin was. Either he was just late or he was sick. I doubted he was sick, because he would have called one of us. That guy rarely skips classes, but when he does, it’s for one person.

"Zac, you will be with Brad," Mrs. Renolds said. "That won't be a problem will it?"

       "Not at all," I replied.

"All right, get into your groups and I'll call each team up to choose your skit," she explained as Brad walked towards me. He didn't look too happy.

"Be careful, Zac," I heard a girl whisper.

I turned to her and smiled. "Don't worry…"

I didn’t know why I said that so suddenly. I was glad I said something, though, to keep from making things worse.

"It won't be a problem, will it?" Brad asked, as he stepped in front of me.

       "Should it be?"

"Aren't you afraid I might turn you gay?"

A few people were gathered around and were listening to us while the teacher called up the first pair.

"Man, it makes no difference. I happen to have a friend who’s gay. It doesn't matter to me."

Brad just smirked, and then he turned to sit on one of the stools nearby.

I could feel pairs of eyes on me. I tried my best to not act strangely, but I felt kind of odd. Not only was Brad gay, but he was totally out, and it seemed that he had no regrets. He seemed pretty hostile towards me, though, and I didn’t know why. I didn’t think I’d done anything to him.

***Brad***

I’ve known I’m gay since I was a little kid. Maybe that's why I was so afraid to make friends. People don't think kids can know if they're gay or not, but I always knew. I always knew I was different from most guys. I came out to my last school, but I was so popular that people either ignored the fact or didn't care. At that school, I was caught with a guy. It was a bit ugly for like two days, but after that, it was smooth sailing.

I decided not to try to fool anyone here in Whitby. The more direct I am, the less likely people will think I'm hiding something. I can deal with a few days of insults, but when everyone sees I'm better than them, they always come back. It happened with my 'friends' in my last school, and it'll happen here at this school.

I saw that my announcement in drama class had spread through the school like wildfire. I stared into the face of every girl and guy, challenging them to do something about it. I even found some cute guys who were just being easy on the eyes. A few girls surprisingly gave me death stares. I could read them like a book. I just knew they were asking themselves, “How can a hot, rich, athletic guy like him be gay?” Truth is, I'd rather be with a cute guy who had even the worst personality than be with a cute, smart girl.

I walked confidently into the cafeteria at lunchtime. I felt like I was going on stage and everyone was looking at me. It was a rush I could never get sick of. People saw me, they noticed me, and they won't be forgetting me. That may be why I'm really into showbiz. I know I'm not going anywhere with my useless brain, so I may as well use my body for what I'm best at: entertaining.

I walked into the servery and scoped out the food. Nothing but junk.

Gross. Poutine? That thing is so unhealthy.

I grabbed a garden salad and an apple. I noticed the fat-free Italian dressing and grabbed some of that.

Walking in line, I could hear the girls behind me talking about me. I loved it.

"That will be two-fifty, cutie," the old lady said with a smile.

She was awesome, and I grinned back, full force. "Thanks,” I said, passing her my card.

She acted all surprised but was really sweet about it. "No, dear, we don't take credit cards. Only cash."

Shit, you're in high school, dumbass. You actually thought they'd accept cards?

"Oh, jeez, my bad," I said, pulling a crisp twenty from my wallet. "Sorry, my mind was totally out of it."

"Oh, it's okay, cutie," she said.

After the transaction, I said goodbye and headed off. Old people are my weakness. Well, not really a weakness, but I’m always overly nice to them. My grandparents are sort of my parents instead of my real parents. They’re old, but they’ve always loved me and spoiled me. I really love them. It was the hardest thing to say goodbye to them when I came back to Whitby. My friends were easy to deal with, cause I never really cared about them. I knew they only liked me for my status, and that's what friends are all about. They use each other. Being a friend is just the sweet way of using someone.

I took a seat near some guys who looked my age. They all stared at me, then one of them said something and they all got up. It didn't bother me; it almost made me want to laugh. This time next week, they'll be begging for me to notice them.

I was eating my salad, alone at a large table that could seat close to eight people, when someone said, “Hey, mind if we take a seat?”

I looked up from my food to find a really pretty Asian girl and an even prettier girl beside her. The blond had been in my first class, but I couldn't recall her name. Nothing about them seemed suspicious, but I knew the story about my being gay would have already reached them. I was wondering what their game was.

"Yeah, sure," I said to them with my great smile. "You're in first period religion, right?" I asked the blond.

I thought maybe something would slip out if I gave them one of my signature smiles, but they just smiled back and sat down.

       "Yup, glad you remember me."

"Maya told us about you," the Asian girl said. "I'm Mai, and this is Lenne. She told us you’re new, and after that rumor about you started spreading, she didn't want you to feel like this place is a hell hole."

Wow, that Maya girl is really sweet.

"Nah, it's not a rumor, I really am gay."
I thought they would look at me weird and get up and leave, suddenly remembering an errand they had to do. But they just smiled and went on like they didn't care.

"Who cares…you're not the only gay guy here. Some of our friends are gay," the girl named Mai said.

"Mai… " the other girl said suddenly.

"Don't worry so much, Lenne. I'm not telling him who," Mai said laughingly. "He'll have to find out for himself."

"You're friends with Scott, Zac, Kayden, Shin and Jett…right?" I asked.

"Oh, you already know those guys?" Lenne brightened up. I guessed they were.

"Yeah, I went to elementary school with four of them. I just moved back to Whitby, so I know them from a few years back. I met Kayden this morning, and Maya, too."

"They’re great guys," Mai said. "I'm dating Shin.”

"And you're probably dating Kayden or Zac, right?" I said, turning to Lenne.

They both looked at each other and busted out laughing. Well, I guess not.

"No, I'm not dating anyone. And if I was, out of all those guys it would most likely be Jett," the girl said as she stroked back her blond hair.

Mai slapped Lenne's arm. It didn't look like it hurt; it was like a friendly slap -- the type girls give each other on the arm when they're joking around. "Really? I thought you didn't like him that way," Mai said.

"I said most likely, Mai." Lenne laughed a bit more. That was really nice. Those two girls were different from the girls in my last school.

"Well, if some of your friends are gay, I'm hoping that Kayden guy is one of them. He's really good looking," I told them.

The only way to know if Kayden is gay is to tell his friends I like him. If they tell him, and he likes me back, we might work something out.

They both wore pained expressions. "Kayden is seeing someone…" Lenne said.

"And there's no hope on that path for you, trust me," Mai said.

That hurt. I hate it when all the guys I like are straight. Not like it’s a problem. If I’m persistent enough I can turn a straight guy gay. I knew a guy who insisted he was straight. He was supposedly my best friend, and I got him to fool around with me. He’s probably gay now. After our little interaction he didn't date another girl.

"Damn! Oh, well. It was worth trying," I told them. I noticed the nervous looks they gave each other. Something was up.

"He'll be joining us from now on. Everyone be nice to him," the teacher said. "Okay, Brad, please take an empty seat."

I took a seat near the guy named Kayden. He smiled when I looked at him. Damn, he was hot. What’re the chances of him be gay? I wondered.

As I took my seat I noticed a few people whispering and looking in my direction. One of them was a girl from my drama class. I couldn't blame her; I would have done the same if I were in her shoes.

I turned to Kayden and smiled. "Hey, man."

"Hey," he replied back. He smiled the cutest smile I'd ever seen. He had this lop-sided smile and a dimple. I boned up immediately. I knew I'd do anything to get into his pants. "How did your first two classes go?" he asked.

"Great. And I had lunch with two of your friends, Mai and Lenne. Nice girls."

"Yeah, they are," he grinned back.

Great, I'm going to need to go to the washroom for a bit.

Class started and nothing else was exchanged between Kayden and me. I was certain the news about my being gay would have reached him by then. Either it hadn’t, or he didn't care. That guy was a mystery.

***Kayden***

"It’s just that sometimes he's so irrational!" Maya said.

We were on the bus. The route to her house goes just a block from my own. Instead of taking the route to my house, I can take hers and have someone to talk to.

I grinned. "Isn’t that the reason you like him? You're the brains and he's the fun?"

Maya smiled as she turned to me. "Well, yeah, that is a factor. But that's not why I like him. He's honest about his feelings."

I looked at her weird and she did her best to swat me.

"Sorry, I just don't know what you mean by that," I said to her.

"Well, he says what he thinks. I mean, he's not afraid to speak his mind. I never have to ask him what's on his mind, because I can clearly see it. He doesn't hide who he is. He’s like, ‘either accept me or fuck off’."

I turned to her sharply. Maya hardly swears, and when she did it then…wow, it just didn't suit her.

She smiled. "Yes, I can swear. Anyways, I guess that's why I like him. He's straight forward, he has goals for himself, and when he sets his mind to it he can do anything."

I smiled as she continued to speak her mind. It was almost like she was writing in her journal and my mind was saving it.

"I think I just remembered why I tolerate him," she beamed.

"Does that mean you're not still mad at him?"

"Oh, I'm still angry, but I'll make him fix it. If there's anything he needs to get over, it's himself. He hates to admit he's wrong, but in this case, he is. More now than ever. Brad is gay, apparently."

"Really?" I asked, shocked. "No way! That must be just a rumor. Maya, you know those ones about you were fake, so how can you believe that?"
"It's not a rumor, my dear Kade. Lenne and Mai ate lunch with him because I heard the rumor early, and I didn't want him to hate our school, thinking everyone hates gays, just in case he is. Turns out he really is."

Amazing… Such a straight-acting guy is gay? Well, Zac is gay, too, but as soon as I saw him, I knew I wanted to be by his side. I was praying Zac was gay.

"Careful, Kayden, you have Zac," Maya whispered, "Your bachelor days are over."

"I know that!" I stated strongly. "I'm just surprised, that's all. He doesn't seem gay."

"You of all people shouldn't be talking, little boy," Maya said playfully, swinging at me. "You and Zac sure don’t fit the stereotype."
       "Yeah, that's true," I agreed.

"Anyways, what we need to talk about is Thursday. First thing you do is surprise Zac. I say go to his house early with a teddy bear or something cute."

       "Maya…" I began.

"Okay, maybe not a teddy bear, but something you think he'll like. A cologne, a new shirt, anything nice. Maybe you have money for jewelry?"

"That's perfect!" I said, slapping my hand on my thigh. I was pretty loud, and I realized I’d caught the attention of half the bus.

"What is, jewelry? You have the money for that?" she asked as she stroked her hair behind her ear.

"No, I know what to get him." I smiled inwardly.

       "What's that?"

I blushed. I had planned on getting Zac a new Speedo for Christmas, but I ended up foiling those plans. Now I knew how to make up for it. The new Speedo would be a gift to me just as much as to him, but it was perfect. Maybe I’ll get him a few DVDs or something, too.

"Umm…there's a shirt he said he liked when we went to the mall during the weekend. Looks like I'm going shopping tonight."

"Oh, I want to come! I need to pick up some things," Maya said excitingly.

"I think I might want to go by myself," I told her.

"Nope. I'm coming, ‘cause I know for a fact you're not going to buy Zac a shirt, and I'm curious what you will buy him."

       Damn, she can read me.

I must have looked pretty miserable, because she started laughing. I took a sip of my bottled water.

"Come on, it can't be that embarrassing. What was embarrassing was looking for board shorts Scott might like. The girl there handed me a skimpy Speedo and said, 'Imagine him wearing only this!' God, Kayden, I've never been so embarrassed."

I started choking on my water.

"You okay?" she asked. I just nodded my head as I kept coughing.

"Come on, tell me!" she said, pulling on my shirt.

"Fine, but don't say anything, okay? And don't laugh. I'm trusting you, Maya…"

She put a hand over her heart as if saying she swore on it.

I whispered in her ear. I was positive the swerve the bus took was because of Maya's burst of ”WHAT?”

Everyone turned to her, and she really blushed.       She then turned to me with the biggest smile. "You're seriously going to get him that?"

       I nodded.

"That's bold, Kayden. Real bold. I'm still going with you, though. I want to get something for Scott. You know it's his birthday on the fifteenth."

"I didn't know that," I told her. "Are the guys doing anything for him?"

"Nope, he hates parties for himself. He wants everyone just to go out on Friday and eat at a bar-and-grill restaurant. You know, the regular guy thing."

"I see. Then I guess I need to get him something, too."

"My birthday is on the sixtreenth, but I'm going to celebrate it with Scott on Friday. You're coming, right?" She gave me a look as if challenging me to say otherwise.

"Of course, I wouldn't miss it."

"Great. When is your birthday, by the way?" she asked as she looked out the window.

"It's already passed, actually. It was last month."

       "What?" Maya said, again loudly.

Again half the bus turned to her, and she turned to them and apologized.

"Why didn't you tell us? Did Zac know?" Maya asked.

"It never came up. And no, Zac doesn't know. Actually, I think he forgot, which is clearly understandable. I can't remember dates for the life of me."

"That's not fair! We didn't get to do anything!"

"We couldn't help it. That week we were bogged down with projects and the upcoming exams. And Zac had to teach me a lot for our religion exam," I told her. I knew she felt bad, but it really didn't bother me. "I mean, we can't have parties all the time."

Maya glared at me. "You will not let that happen again! It's not fair. We could have at least gotten you a cake or something. I mean, no one even said happy birthday to you…that's not fair."

"Okay, okay, I won't let it happen again, I promise."

"Good, now what time should we go to the mall? I can get my brother to drop us."

"Any time, I guess. Hey, don't tell Zac about my birthday, okay? I decided what one surprise is going to be for Valentine's Day, and if he knows I’ve had my birthday that’ll will ruin it."

"Well, I guess realizing you missed your boyfriend's birthday could ruin Valentine's Day. All right, anyways, here's my stop. I'll call you in a bit."

       "Okay. Bye, Maya."

***Zac***

"What's that noise?" Dad asked as he was adjusting his tie at the front mirror.

"Sounds like a motorcycle or something," I said idly as I tied my shoes.

Dad was going to drop me at school, like every day.

I saw Kayden walk up to the doorway as I stood up. He saw me and grinned.

"What are you doing here?" I asked with the biggest smile, as I opened the door. How could I not smile after seeing Kayden?

"Happy Valentine's to you, too," Kayden said, and then met up with my eyes as I lifted them from the floor. "I came to pick you up." He winked at me. "Hey, Mr. H, how are you this morning?"

"Hi, Kayden,” Dad said, stepping up behind me. "You guys going to walk to school?"

"No way, Kade, we won't make it in time. Dad can drop us," I told Kayden.

"We have first period spare, remember?" he reminded me. "Our teacher had to go to a conference, so he made this morning’s class a spare," he explained to my dad.

I had completely forgotten about that.

"That's fine with me, boys. The walk will be good for you," Dad said, as we stepped outside.

"Well, I didn't walk here," Kayden said, "I took that…"

When I turned to where he pointed, I almost freaked.

"Oh, my God! The motorcycle." It was the motorcycle that had belonged to Rick, Kayden's late foster dad. It had been stored in Kayden's garage.

"That's a beauty, Kade. A 1996 Kawasaki 1500. Do you have a license for that?" Dad said in his fatherly tone.

"Dad!" I complained. I was also impressed; I didn’t know Dad knew anything about motorcycles. Then again, he’s an engineer, and he had had a bike at the same age as Kayden.

"Yup, just got the license a while back," Kayden smiled.

"Good. Do you have an extra helmet?"

       "Yup!"

"Well then, enjoy yourselves, boys. Kayden, drive carefully," Dad said, pointing a finger.

"For sure, sir," my boyfriend grinned at him.

"All right, I'll see you boys later. I need to get to work."

We said our goodbyes and watched my dad drive away.

***Kayden***

I turned to Zac and he turned to me. "When did you get your license?"

       "Last month."

I saw the smile wash off his face. "It was your birthday last month!" he said in horror.

"Zac, it's okay. We were all busy, man. I don't care."

That didn't do any good. Zac looked seriously upset.

"Hey, listen," I said, putting a hand on his shoulder, "we were busy. Maya already gave me the lecture. I didn't realize it was a big deal. I'm sorry, okay?"

"Kade, I'm the one who should be sorry. What kind of boyfriend am I?"    "Come on, Zac, stop it. Let's pretend today is my birthday, okay? It won't happen again."

"I promise it won't, Kade," Zac said.

       "Come on…smile, it's my birthday," I joked.

       That brought on his smile.

"Come on, let's tear up the road," I said, passing him my helmet. "I have another one on the bike."

"Can you even drive this thing? I thought it didn't work," Zac said as I got our stuff together.

"It works perfectly. I've been driving it for almost a year. Rick never cared if I had a license or not, as long as I wasn't on the busy roads. Plus, I've been practicing more since I got my license. I'm actually not allowed to have a passenger for another 30 days and until after I pass my M2 test. But if I'm careful, we should be all right. No one will pull us over," I said, grinning.

"You're such a bad influence," Zac said, giving me a look that was so sexy. He was biting his bottom lip.

"When were you going to tell me?" he asked as he put the helmet on.

"I would have told you sooner, but I had to make sure it was still all right. I had to take it into the shop after exams. Now it's in great condition. Come on, we're skipping first period."

I started the bike and Zac got on. "All right, take me away, Kade," he said, putting his arms around my waist.

"Hold on. You’re going to have a blast today, I promise.”

When we were set to go, I felt Zac grip my waist as I started the engine.

You don't have to hold that tight, Zac… I smiled to myself.

"You sure you know how to ride this thing?" Zac asked, with a hint of nervousness in his voice.

"Well, I did hit a girl on the way here, but she let me off free with a promise of dinner next week."

"Don't joke like that, man." Zac's voice was near panic. "This is my first time on one of these."

That made me realize how insensitive I was being.

"I won't let you get hurt, Zac. You'll be safe with me."

We sat motionless for a moment. I felt something hard press against my back. I turned a bit to see Zac resting his head against me. "I'm sorry, Kayden. I really do trust you. It's just a bit scary, you know?"

       "I know, and I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said what I said."

"Well, let's get on with it. We wait any longer and I might be tempted to just get off." Zac tried to laugh. I felt his body tremble against me. He was frightened.

I backed out of the driveway and went slow. Gradually, his trembling subsided. By the time I finally reached the speed limit, he wasn’t trembling at all, and I could tell he was enjoying the ride.
As we rode along the main streets, many students, both walking and in cars, turned towards us and stared with admiration. For some reason, a sense of pride filled me. I felt a bit grown up. I was driving, and I was with the guy I love.

I turned at a corner, away from the direction of our school.

"Where we going?" I heard Zac shout over the engine noise.

"There's a place I want to show you," I shouted back.

I smiled as I felt Zac's arms grip my waist tighter for a second. I could feel the affection through his arms, and it was good.

Instead of following the road, I veered off and drove along a path out to some fields. The fields were everywhere. It was basically vacant land that would probably be developed in the next decade or so. The paths were made by the countless students who walked them to cut across the fields to get to school.

I found a path that circled behind a thick forest and towards a creek. I stopped the bike a few meters from a bridge and took off my helmet. This was one of Zac's Valentine presents. The other one was still at my house. Maya thought the bikini briefs we saw were too vulgar. I had been eyeing the ones that’re like boxer briefs, and are nice and snug. I went with that choice.

I turned back to Zac and smiled. "Know of this place?"
He smiled at me like he knew something I didn't. "Kade, anyone who’s lived here more than a year knows of this place.”

On the other side of the bridge was a path to the other side of the urban development. For sure, many people traveled the small bridge on their way to school. By that time, first period had started, so most of the students were already in class.

We walked onto the bridge and stopped midway.

Zac leaned against the railing and turned to me. "Is this what you wanted me to see? The view here is great."

"Damn, I was hoping you didn't know about this place. I wanted to surprise you."

That made him smile. "You don't need to impress me."

"I know, but I was so excited when I found it. At first, I thought it was my own secret, but I saw a couple of girls crossing it a moment later. Oh, well."

Zac laughed as he turned around to look down from the bridge.

"Pretty high, isn't it?" he asked.

Watching Zac stare at the flowing creek was mesmerizing. He’s a boy as pure as snow. Everything about him is so calming, so gentle, so mature. Well, I don't know about mature. Sometimes he does act like a kid. I guess I love that side of him just as much. It's seems like he only acts that way around me and our friends.

I snuck behind him and wrapped my arms around his body. He turned his head to try and look at me.

       "Kade?"

"I'm really lucky to have you, Zac. I keep reminding myself this isn't a dream. I really am here with you," I told him honestly.

We stared straight ahead towards the slightly snowy hills. Springtime was coming, but it had been a very mild winter.

"It's very real, Kade. And right now, it's just you and me…here." With that, he turned and stared into my eyes.

I didn’t hesitate to lean forward and steal a kiss. Our mouths danced for a few moments. When Zac pulled back, he was smiling. A seriousness took over his features as he stared deeply into my eyes.

"Hey…why do you like me so much?" he asked.

       "What?"

"Come on, Kade, you heard me."

I had heard his question; I just didn’t understand what he meant by it. Why did I like Zac? Because he was hot? There are plenty of hot guys around. Why did I chase after Zac? The only reason that I could think of was the fact he was different from me.

Zac's eyes didn't divert. He waited patiently for my answer.

"Don’t you have any worries?" I asked him.

Now it was Zac's turn to say "what?"

I stroked his cheek with my thumb while my other hand held his neck real gently. "When I'm with you, all my problems seem to go away. It's like I can smile more."

Zac’s eyes changed for a second. "I almost forget. Happy valentine's day."

I stared deeply into those brown eyes. Without warning, Zac moved his mouth towards mine. I graciously accepted it. Closing my eyes, I imagined we were the only ones in the world. That's honestly what it felt like.

"Let's catch a movie tonight," I suggested as we walked into the school.

"Sounds like an idea. Wanna grab some food before the movie?" Zac asked.

"How about I make you some of Rick’s special lasagna?" I asked, turning to him. The halls were still empty. Second period wasn't going to start for another twenty minutes.

"Oh, home cooked? I didn't know you can cook," Zac said, showing surprise in his brown eyes. No matter how often I look at them, they always captivate me.

"Well, I don't have anyone to cook for me, like you do," I joked.

He looked a bit sad when I said that.   "Sorry, Kade…I wasn't thinking," he whispered.

We stopped and he turned to me. "Don't be sorry, Zac,” I said. “It can't be helped. Let's not think about it, okay? It's my birthday."

The laugh that escaped Zac's mouth was really pleasant. I felt myself lose some tension, but I still hoped my little comment wouldn’t make him worry about me.

"Lasagna, huh?" he asked. "You know, I'm going to finish it all. If you make it, it’ll taste amazing."

"I take pride in it," I smiled. "A few improvisations and a dash of my own originality, and I have my own masterpiece. Well, not really, I just modify it slightly because I can’t remember some of the ingredients Rick used to put in it."

We both laughed at my goofiness. Zac suddenly pushed me into a hall of lockers and I almost fell.

"Wha-" I was about to say, but Zac's hand covered my mouth as he squeezed our bodies into a corner.

       "Shh…VP."

I knew what that meant. Mr. Sanders. He could possibly be Mr. Sergeant's twin brother. They look nothing alike, but they must have had the same childhood, to grow up to be so grumpy and cruel. If we were caught in the hallways, we’d be in trouble.

We heard the footsteps approach, stop, and then fade away. If we had been caught, we would have been chewed out, no doubt, but for a second it felt like Zac and I were on the run or something. It was a rush.

Zac lowered his hand from my mouth and smiled. "Sorry about that. I just don't like that guy, and I'd hate to be on his shit list."

I laughed and Zac followed after. He didn't make an effort to move away. Our bodies were closer together that most friends’ bodies would be. Anyone who passed by would clearly see us and get the wrong idea. Well, the right idea, but it wouldn't be a good thing for us.

"Shouldn't we be more careful?" I asked.

"Why, you don't like me this close?" Zac winked.

"Well, sure, but we don’t want trouble here at school."

"And what sort of trouble would that be?"

I was about to answer, but then I realized that it wasn’t Zac who had asked that. Zac's eyes registered the same surprise as mine must have.

       Not again…please be Mr. Riley.

       Close, but no cigar.

Brad was leaning against the wall that had blocked the view of us when Mr. Sanders had walked by. Brad was no more than a few feet from us.

Zac immediately distanced himself from me.

"Uh, Brad… What are you doing here?" I asked.

"Well, you're in front of my locker."

"Oh," I said, and moved away from the row of lockers.

"It's not what you think…" Zac said immediately.

Oh, jeez, Zac, that will definitely make him suspicious.

"Well, what I saw was pretty mind blowing. Usually friends aren't pinned against each other," Brad said as he turned the dial on his locker. "It was pretty hot. Even for straight guys."

       Holy crap! He doesn't know!

I looked at Zac and he looked back at me painfully. I didn’t know why, but I got a sick feeling in my stomach the moment I turned to my boyfriend. It was like he was debating something, and it wasn't a good thing.

"Actually, it wasn't your imagination, Brad," Zac whispered. "Kade and I…"

"Zac!" I said his name with surprise.

I thought you were afraid of people knowing.

By then, Brad was looking at us with a serious expression. Almost too serious.

"He's out, Kade. It's not like he's going to attack us," Zac said, smiling at me. He turned to Brad. "Kade and me are boyfriends, Brad. We're gay, same as you."

No one said anything. We stood in a triangle as Brad cast a gaze back and forth between us.

"You're fucking kidding me," he said in a harsh whisper.

       What?

"You're gay?" Brad asked, turning to me.

"Uh, yeah…Zac said so, didn't he?" I said, really unsure of what I should say.

Brad shook his head as if he couldn’t believe it. "And you're…you're with…him?" He said that as if the possibility disgusted him.

       "Yes, I am!"

       Again there was silence.

I turned to Zac and I could tell that he was just as confused as I was. I knew why Zac had said what he said. He thought Brad might carry less of a burden if he knew he wasn't the only one.

A loud bang scared the shit out of me. I turned and saw Brad’s fist trembling against a locker door.

Before Zac or I could say anything, Brad walked away.

I stepped over to Zac and said, "That was weird. You'd think he'd be happy he’s not alone."

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" a voice boomed.

I cursed as I turned around. Sure enough, Mr. Sanders stood there with his arms crossed.

"You two come with me," he said harshly.

Zac and I groaned before following him to the main office.

***Zac***

When Kayden and I returned to my house after school, we couldn't keep our hands off each other. The entire day, I’d had nothing on my mind but him. As he passionately kissed me, I knew I must have been on his mind, as well.

"This day was so long. I kept wanting to be with you like this," he whispered into my ear.

I was out of breath and my head was spinning. I was trembling, and Kayden's hot breath was making me go crazy.

Shit…how does he make me feel like this?

He released me from his arms and stood back.

"So what do you want to do?" he teased.

We stared at each other for a moment, neither of us saying anything. He finally moved his gaze from my eyes and looked towards my pants. I’m not embarrassed at all around Kayden, anymore. I even pushed my hips forward to show more of a bulge. My eyes wandered downward to see how he was doing.

We stared at each other’s bodies for a while longer, getting more and more excited by each other’s state of arousal.

       "Zac…" Kayden began.

*Ring*Ring*

I turned sharply towards the kitchen phone, wanting to go rip it off the wall. I looked back at Kayden and saw him grinning.

       "Go ahead," he chuckled.

Annoyed, I walked into the kitchen.

"Hello!" I said in a much harsher voice then I intended.

"Whoa! Shit, man. Did you and Kade have another fight?" my friend asked.

"Dammit, Jett, what do you want?" I said with a smile. I knew he could tell I was joking.

"Knowing you, you damn horndog, you and Kayden were set to do something nasty. Looks like I just saved an innocent kitten."

"Shut up, you bastard," I said through a laugh.

"Anyways, you and Kade doing anything this evening? Lenne is coming over. We were thinking about going to dinner and maybe a movie," he explained.

"What? I thought she wasn’t interested in you."

"That's what I thought, too. I even asked her about that. She just laughed and patted my cheek and said I'm cute but she's not interested in me that way. She doesn't tease or anything, she does things friends would do, you know? She just wants to be friends, but damn…"

I laughed hard, causing Jett to swear over the phone.

The thing is, Jett always gets the girl he has his mind on. I wouldn't say he’s a male slut. He’s always faithful to every girl he’s seeing, but up until Lenne, no girl had ever turned him down.

"Whatever, man. Anyways, you wanna do something with us or not?" he said in an annoyed voice.

I knew he was playing, so I let it slide.

"Sure, man. It'll be fun with the four of us together. Kade and I were only going to have sex, anyways," I joked.

"You mean like blow jobs and stuff? Or do you mean butt stuff?" he asked kinda hesitantly.

I wasn't going to say, but then again he’s my best friend, and he shares his experiences with me. He probably didn't think they did anything for me now, but the truth is I get very much aroused with what Jett says he does with girls. He never talks about them like objects; it's almost how a girl would describe being held by her guy, except Jett’s the one explaining.

"Well, yeah, man. We tried that. It was good, too. Kade wasn't a pro or anything. You know we’re both beginners, right?"

He didn't say anything for a moment, and I wondered if I’d said the wrong thing. Kayden was getting a drink or something. I knew that whatever Jett and I said that was private would be kept only between us.

"Whoa! You mean… Kade stuck his…up your…  Nuh uh! You’re shittin’ me, dude. He didn’t do that do you!”

"Yeah, he did. It was a bit weird, but I want to do it again. It was like I was giving myself to him, but I wasn't worried."

Again, nothing was exchanged for a few moments, and then I heard one of Jett’s mischievous chuckles.

"Damn, man… I always thought that between the two of us, I’d be the first one to leave the virgin circle." He said it so deadpan it was hilarious. We both busted into fits of laughter.

"So, what did he say?" I heard Lenne ask Jett.

       "She's there now?" I asked.

"Yeah, just walked in," he said to me, and then he said to Lenne, "They’re coming."

Kade stepped over to see what was up, and I just smiled at him.

***Brad***

How can this be? Kayden is gay? I had a chance and didn’t know it! But that guy! That guy always ruins everything. I hate him! I hate Zac Hunter!

I was pissed. So pissed I couldn't really control my anger, and it showed in the way I was driving. I was westbound on the 401 Express, going 160 km/h. It was around 5:00 PM, so the rush hour traffic was moving in the opposite direction, away from Toronto. I was on my way downtown to lose some of my stress. I was looking for something, and I was going to get it.

Within twenty minutes I was locking up my car and making my way to Second Cup, a coffeehouse on Church Street.

I had known about Church Street even when I lived in Whitby before moving away. It’s in the gay district of Toronto. I had never really checked it out, though. If anything, I thought it would be similar to the area I knew best in Vancouver.

I walked into the coffeehouse and quickly looked around. It had a calm, warm atmosphere. That made me even more pissed off. Everywhere I looked, there were couples. A guy laughing happily with his guy. Two girls reading novels as their feet brushed against each other. Different conversations surrounded me.

I felt a few eyes on me and I turned to them with interest. I made eye contact with several single people who were drinking coffee or trying to seem like they were busy doing something.

I walked up to the counter and tapped the guy who was talking to someone, probably the manager of the place.

"Hey, can I get an Italian soda, cherry?" I asked, showing my best smile.

The guy turned around and smiled big.

"Sure thing, hon. Want it extra sweet? Or do you want it regular?"

If he wasn't gay, then I wasn't either. No way in hell could he not be. Not only was he very femme, but he had pink hair!

"Regular is fine. I don't like things too sweet," I said, giving him my arrogant smile. I don’t know why, but whenever I'm around girly-acting guys, I feel like I'm better than them. Or at least I try to be. I remember one time a guy chewed me out when I stepped over the line. I had told that him if I wanted to date a girl, I'd turn straight. I was lucky he didn’t slap me.

"That's too bad," he smiled. "For you, I can be the sweetest thing."

I just smiled at him and waited for my drink.

       "Hi…" I heard someone say.

I didn’t have to look. I knew already I wasn't interested. It was probably some middle-aged guy who thought he could score with a young stud like me.

"Sorry, man, not interested," I told him.

"Come on, you didn't even check out what I have to offer," he said.

"And you're about fifteen years past what I'm looking for," I mocked him. "So why don't you just save what little pride you still have and fuck off?"

I turned to him and scowled venomously. He wasn't bad. He was about 35 or so. Way too old for me. I would never sleep with a guy even five years older than me. He nodded and bit his bottom lip before walking away.

"Good thing you have a brain in that cute head of yours," the guy behind the counter said as he passed me my drink. "That guy is in here every day thinking he could pick up the young ones. The owner here says the guy’s  been screwing since he was fifteen. A guy like that will never find anyone. Just look at him. He's alone and his looks are fading. Looks don't last forever. It's best to find someone who likes you for who you are."

I smiled at the guy and gave him a five-dollar bill. He was an interesting fellow, but I didn’t need his preaching.

"A firm ’No’, and you get to watch the old dog walk away with his tail between his legs," I told him.

"Oh, you are the bomb. I like your style. Maybe if I was less femme, we could do something, huh?"

"For sure, man, but don't let it bother you. Everyone has their preference. Keep the change, okay, dude?"

"Thanks. Have fun and be safe."

I looked around a bit more and knew I wouldn't find what I wanted in there, so I headed out.

I found him. A guy walking with his friends. Not too tall, blond hair, a slender but toned and tight body. No fat on him at all. Nothing but sex appeal. For sure, the guy and his small group of friends were gay.

I took out a cigarette and walked towards them. I watched as all of the guys except the one I had my eye on slowly noticed me. The guy I’d set my eye on finally turned to me, and I knew he'd do just fine.

"Hey, you guys have a light?" I asked, showing them my sexiest smile.

I looked at the reactions and knew I’d hit the jackpot.

Several of them took out lighters, Blondie being a little slower than his friends. With four lighters to choose from, I stepped up to the blond guy and took his hand. I brought it to the cigarette held between my lips.

He was trembling slightly. Nervous, no doubt. This one is going to be easy.

It took him several tries to get a flame. When he finally got it, I lit up while staring at him. I took a deep drag and smiled at him.

His friends all sort of stood there gawking at us. I turned to them and gave them a little nod as if telling them to get lost. One of them got the idea.

"We'll be inside, Tyler. Come on, guys," the oldest-looking one said.

Slowly they departed, leaving me with the guy named Tyler.

"Smart friends. I just moved here and I’m checking this place out. Wanna give me a run-through of this place? I don't really know where anything is."

       "Sure," he said, blushing.

After thirty minutes of walking and talking, my flirting skills managed to break the ice. Tyler was talking pretty normally, without the nervousness. He was a first-year university student. I told him I was 18, just so he wouldn’t think I was some brat. I probably looked as old as him, so I pulled that off pretty easily.

"Where are you from?" he asked.

"BC. I need to look for a hotel for tonight. I'm meeting up with some friends here tomorrow. We're gonna go house hunting. I probably should have booked something, huh?" I joked.

When he laughed, I knew he was mine.

       "Help me find a place?"

       "Sure!"

By then, we were on Bloor Street and there was a Best Western in sight.

This guy is mine for tonight.

After I’d booked a room for the night, my new friend Tyler was itching to leave.

"Why don’t you come upstairs? I’ve never had such a fun time with someone I never knew before. Come on, please?" I begged.

"Really? You like having me around?" he asked shyly.

"Yeah, man. You're different from all my other friends. Come on up. We'll have a drink or something before you meet back up with your friends."

"All right..." he finally said. “Let me just call my friends. They’re probably wondering where the hell I am."

He stepped away to make the call, probably to tell his friends he was getting lucky. He acted all boyish and shy, but I could tell the guy had at least some experience under his belt. If not, virgins are the best, anyways.

When we got into the elevator I didn't waste any time. I stepped up to him and kissed him fiercely. At first he didn't do anything, but then he got into it.

When the door opened, I led him out, grinning. I noticed the bulge in his pants. In less than ten minutes we were naked and on the bed. I had him where I wanted him. No need to play nice anymore. He tried to make the first move, but I wouldn't have it.

"Hey, man, I don't do that. Lay on your back," I commanded him.

       "Uh, all right…"

Damn that Zac… Not only did he make a fool of me, but he has the guy I want!

       "You have protection?" Tyler asked.

       "Of course I do."

       "Oh, okay, just checking…"

Shit, Kayden. Why Zac? I'm so much better…

"Wait, slow down a bit. We have all night…"

I didn't pay any attention to his needs.

I don't care if you like Zac. When you know I'm better than him, you'll dump him. Then you'll be mine. I'll make you want me…

"W-wait! Ugh!" I ignored his pleas.

I'm Brad Canning. I get what I want, no matter who gets in my way. I always take what I want. I will have you, Kayden. You and Zac are over…

Again, first thanks goes out to my Editor Aaron, for his patience and for putting up with my "additional notes", even after he finished editing. And thanks to that gang of his at The Mail Crew for hosting my stories. They do great work, and should be recognized for it.

So, how's life? Summer is starting to suck. My damn work wanted me working afternoon shifts too during the week, not just on some days. But I can't because of school. So back to looking for a job. Oh and by the way, did I mention I hate programming. Java is my enemy, but I really like FORTRAN, now that's something I can use in the future.

So how about it eh? Brad is quite the interesting fellow to write up about. Plots thicken, and Zac and Kayden's relationship takes another step as they share their first Valentine's day.

I seriously don't have much to say right now, lol, it's quite late, so I'll just leave it at that. Good night folks, and stay safe,
