Chapter 4

We arrived back in Washington the day before the fall House legislative session began. The Senate would not be in session for another week. On our drive Al asked if I had plans for any additional education. I had not even thought about his question. I liked my job and could see me doing it for a long time. He said, “Jack, Mr. Roosevelt and I think you should consider getting a law degree. If you really want be successful in our business you’ll need more than a bachelor’s degree.”

I said, “Al, I’ve not considered going back to school. I like my job working for you two and Martha and Alex.”

“We have no intention of letting you go. Why don’t you look at schools in DC?” Al took a drink from his coffee cup and continued, “I do have some news for you which I received from Jeff right before we left. Apparently, Jennifer has been promoted to take over another group so we’re short-handed again.”

“She is good. Is Jeff looking for another person for us?”

“I told him we’d talk about it when we returned.” I thought of Theo. He said he was in school but I didn’t know what that meant. I sat quietly thinking as Al maneuvered the Honda through the streets of Washington. After unloading the luggage I drove the car to our garage. Walking to the house I wondered if I should look into law schools. When I got back the lights upstairs were turned off so I took that as a sign that I should stay in my apartment. I thought about calling Theo but decided to wait to see how things developed at the office.

Things were hectic from the start of the session. Within two weeks Al and I were flying to Seattle and then onto San Jose for meetings with a group of Silicon Valley legal representatives. When I got back I was so far behind. I went to Jeff and asked if he would help me find someone. I told him I intended to contact one person. I sent Theo a text inviting him to have a drink at the St. Greg Bar on M Street close to the George Washington University campus. He texted back that he had classes in the evening and proposed lunch on Saturday. I was free so agreed to meet him. Saturday morning he texted that he wasn’t feeling his best and could he stop by my place on Sunday afternoon. I was fine with that because Al and Mr. Roosevelt were in New York for the weekend. I gave him the address and told him to ring the front door bell. When I met him he seemed shocked at ‘my house’.” I laughed, “I live in the basement. Follow me.”

“Whose house is this?”

“Al and Curtis. I live in an apartment in their basement. I work for them as an assistant in their office.”

Theo was dressed in tight blue jeans, white tennis shoes and a light blue windbreaker. He took off the jacket and laid it over the back of the sofa. I offered him a cup of tea but he asked if I had any white soda but I didn’t. I went upstairs to get some tonic from the kitchen. He didn’t refuse. When I returned he started by apologizing for missing our lunch date but said he had an upset stomach. He concluded it was from consuming some dairy product but didn’t know where. After drinking some of the tonic he seemed to brighten up. I said, “What are you studying at GW?

“I’m about to complete my MBA. I’m here on a student visa. I can only stay one more year unless some company sponsors me for a green card.”

“Where in China are you from?”

“You may not know the place but I’m from Shenzhen which is close to Hong Kong. I would prefer to stay here. Does your company have Chinese clients?”

“I know our group doesn’t but I suspect the firm does.” I could tell by the color of his face he was not feeling well. I waited for him to excuse himself to leave or do something.

What he did surprised me, “Jack, I shouldn’t have come. I really feel terrible. Could I lie down for a few minutes and then I’ll go.”

“Lie down on my bed and rest. Don’t worry about leaving until you feel better.” To my surprise he got up slipped off his shoes and his jeans and walked across the room to my bed. He pulled the covers back and laid back. Instinctively, I walked to the bed and put my hand on his forehead. He didn’t seem to have a temperature. I could see his stomach was bloated. It flat less than a week ago. He lay quietly. I sat beside him hoping that getting a little rest would help stabilize him.

After an hour he sat up quickly and said, “Jack, I have to shit quickly.” He ran to the toilet and I could hear his insides gushing out. The smell was gross. When he immerged he apologized and asked if I minded if he showered and he’d be ready to leave. I got up to get him a towel as he took off the few clothes he had on. I decided that he should stay and I could sleep upstairs. “Theo, I think you should stay the night. I can sleep upstairs.” He didn’t object and got back into my bed and fell soundly asleep.

I woke him in the morning and told him I needed to leave. I had to be at work by nine. He quickly dressed and seemed to be feeling better. “Do you feel up to walking to the DuPont Circle Metro or should I call Uber?”

“I’m feeling much better. I want us to keep our lunch date. Give me a few days to get back to one hundred percent.” I smiled and nodded my head as we went down the escalator to the Metro. We parted at Metro Center and agreed to set a date. At work I was busy scheduling multiple meetings for Mr. Roosevelt and Al. They arrived back from New York after noon and went into a partner’s meeting. I didn’t see them until late evening when Al came down to ask about my lunch meeting with Theo. I smiled and told him the story of how it didn’t happen. He invited me to join him and Curtis in their bed which I happily did.

The days and weeks flew by. Before I knew it was Thanksgiving and there was another recess. I had heard from Theo but he never proposed a specific a date for our missed lunch. I knew Curtis and Al were planning a holiday party at the house because I did the invitations. I asked if I could invite Theo. They were fine with that. The party was the second Saturday night in December.

I shared with them the price that I was quoted by caterers. Mr. Roosevelt suggested I call Shep and see if he wants caterer our party. I sent him a text. It took him more than a day to respond. He said he could come but Chris had to stay at the bar. He suggested that a friend of his in Arlington was willing to help him serve. He asked where he should stay. With Mr. Roosevelt and Al’s permission I offered him my room but told him there was only one bed. He didn’t know if his friend would stay over.

Theo texted that he would have finished his finals and could attend the party. It was cool early winter night when thirty men and women arrived to enjoy the holiday event. Shep’s friend was not only a good server but an able bartender. Shep had arrived two days before with ingredients for multiple hot and cold canapés. His presentations were picturesque. I wondered why he stayed at the bar and didn’t try for a job at the Greenbrier and told him so. He smiled and told me he was on their waiting list and would get the next position that was available.

He and Craig cleaned up, announced they were going bar hoping and would be staying at Craig’s. Shep indicated that he would be back in the morning to get his knives and clothes. After they left the three of us plus Theo sat enjoying the quiet in the living room. Nothing much was said and I wasn’t sure what Theo had in mind. He sat next to me he whispered, “Jack, can I stay with you?” I smiled.

His second visit to my room was definitely different from his first. We undressed and slipped under the covers and enjoyed each other completely. He is a sweet guy and he loved to kiss. Next morning I waited around until Shep arrived to retrieve his things. He didn’t seem surprised when Theo was drinking tea at the kitchen counter. He took his pay and generous tip, loaded his aunt’s car, thanked me and drove off. After he left Theo said, “Jack, today would be a great day for us to have our lunch at the St. Greg Restaurant. What do you say? It’s close to my apartment so I can get into something more casual.” Mr. Roosevelt in his satin dressing gown joined us. He said, “Theo, now that you have your degree what are you going to do?”

“I want to find a job but I’m here on a student visa.” Mr. Roosevelt seemed distracted and moved to get his oatmeal out of the microwave. We left Mr. Roosevelt reading the Washington Post and went downstairs to get dressed. I called the office and told Jeff I would be in after lunch. I took out my heavy jacket for the walk to Theo’s apartment. His one bedroom apartment was spacious and much better than I expected a student could afford. He looked down on Thomas Circle across from the beautiful, majestic National City Christian Church. After he changed into warmer clothes we walked to the St. Greg Restaurant on M Street.

After we ordered I commented on how nice his apartment was. He said, “I have to decide if I am going to sign another lease by January 1. My parents want me to come back to China and find a job. I want to talk my father into letting me lease again even if I don’t have a job.”

“While you’re looking do you want to help me in our office?”

“I don’t have a work permit.”

“With all the lawyers we have I am sure we can find a way to get a temporary permit.”

“I’ll do it if I don’t get in trouble. What do you do?” I proceeded to tell him the details and he listened. He said, “I’m not the fastest typist.”

“The most important job is keeping the four partners schedules up-to-date. When I travel with Al details tend to get messed up. Mr. Roosevelt is the worst at knowing when and who he’s meeting. Al tells me he is one of the best lobbyist that the firm has.” After lunch we parted and I walked to the office. The first person I saw was Jeff. I said, “Enjoy yourself last night?” He smiled and nodded before I said, “I may have a temporary solution to our staffing issue. Do you remember the young Asian guy who was at the party last night?” Jeff again nodded and didn’t speak. “He just finished his MBA and is looking for a job. I suggested he work with me until he finds something. He did ask me if there are partners with Chinese clients.”

Once again Jeff nodded but this time said, “Yes, Brian Murdoc, for sure, and maybe others. Why?”

“Theo speaks Mandarin and Cantonese.”

“Let’s bring him in. I’ll check with Murdoc and see if he wants to join us.” I called Theo and invited him to come in the next afternoon to meet Jeff and Mr. Murdoc. Theo arrived in an expensive light gray suit, white shirt with blue collar and dark red tie. He could easily have been going for a job interview on Wall Street. He was cheerful and relaxed as he spoke with us. Brian Murdoc was interested in utilizing Theo’s language skills with his clients. He asked Jeff if Theo could pick up his calls which meant he would be answering the calls for five of us.

Jeff said, ”I think that will work because Martha is going to be away having some medical procedure for about two months starting in January.”

Theo started at the firm ten days before Al and I left for Chicago, Seattle and Los Angeles. Theo quickly picked up the routine. He also became a regular at our dinner table. Al rather boldly I thought said, “Theo, one of the advantages of working with us is you get to know us out of the office. Curtis and I would like you to join us in our bed tonight for some fun.” I could see by the look on his face Theo didn’t know what to say as he looked at me.

Smartly I said, “Theo, they’re not bad to sleep with except Mr. Roosevelt snores sometime.”

Smiling at Al he said, “Sure, let me go change and I’ll get ready. Being an Asian I knew he wanted to be completely clean, not knowing what might happen.”

In a condescending manner Al said, “Don’t worry, Jack, you’re our go to guy. Curtis and I want to check out our new employee.” In a few minutes Theo appeared in tiny, tight white workout shorts and a blue and white tank top. He didn’t say anything until Al said, “Let’s go upstairs. Jack can clean up.” I was annoyed by his tone but complied as I always did. I finished and went downstairs not expecting to see Theo until the morning. I was surprised when I heard him coming down stairs. He stood in front of me wearing only a jock strap.

“I thought you were going to sleep with them.”

“I was prepared to but Mr. Roosevelt fell asleep. Al wanted to fuck and be fucked which was fun for me. He is about the same size as me in the dick department so I took him easily as he did me. After we were done he said he was showering and I should go see how you’re doing.” My dick was pushing against my underpants. Theo got on his knees and pulled my dick out and began to suck it. I enjoyed the feeling but wondered if this was going to change our working relationship.

The colder the weather got the more difficult it was to keep my apartment warm. On more than one occasion I slept with Theo in his apartment. Sleeping with him is like sleeping with your favorite teddy bear. He snuggles and hugs. When I know he’s sound asleep I don’t get angry because he is too cute and loveable. Most mornings we walk to work because it’s the only exercise we get. We discussed joining a gym but there wasn’t one that was convenient to both the house on P Street and his apartment on Thomas Circle. I could tell I was getting wider in the middle because I moved to a looser notch in my belt. I didn’t like that.

The subject of signing another lease on Theo’s apartment came up regularly as the first of the year approached. The leasing agent had texted him twice to find out what he was going to do. He seemed to be waiting for some sign. Finally, one day he came to my cubicle smiling, “Jack, it’s a go.”

Surprised I said, “What’s a go?”

“Signing the lease. My father said to go ahead if you co-sign with me. He seems to be concerned that my visa will be taken away since I’m not in school.” I told him that wouldn’t happen. I was happy that we could be out of my little apartment when it was so cold. When we told Al about our plan he was fine. We decided to keep renting the apartment in their house because the rent was so low. Since we were never sure where we would be sleeping we kept work clothes in both places. Al insisted that he shop with both of us at the sales after Christmas. He was trying to get me to upgrade my wardrobe. I agreed but told him I had to get a gym membership. He didn’t object and told me the next time he went he would sign us up. I didn’t think Theo really needed the gym but I did.

Over the Christmas holidays I stayed in Washington and so did Theo, Curtis and Al. The house was beautifully decorated from the party. It even snowed a little on Christmas morning when we opened a few gifts we had gotten for each other. Theo gave me a vibrating ass probe. I was embarrassed but Al and Mr. Roosevelt both volunteered to show me how to use it. Christmas afternoon was spent upstairs in Al and Mr. Roosevelt’s room trying out my new toy. When I inserted the probe in Al’s waiting asshole almost instantly he was spraying his cum. He tried slowly pushing it into Theo who was wiggling and twisting as the probe entered his cavity. Instead of growing his dick went completely softened. Our fun ended by tossing the multiple condoms away and taking a group shower.

I didn’t mention one gift that Mr. Roosevelt gave Al. It was a big card with a coupon inside. The coupon read, “Sail away with me.” The coupon detailed a week long sailing trip in Caribbean. I was cheerful but didn’t think Theo and I were included. I was wrong because Mr. Roosevelt told us ‘we’ planned to go during the spring legislative break.

Theo was quiet. I wasn’t sure if he didn’t want to go or got seasick. I said to him, “Something concerning you about the sailing trip?” I remembered that Theo had come to me after Al and I returned from the West Coast and told me that Brian wanted him to accompany him to the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office for a reception. He explained that because of the status of Taiwan there is no official embassy. Theo said, “I’m not sure I’ll be able to go sailing because Brian wants me to go with him to Taiwan. I’m not sure I can go considering I’m here on a student visa.” I was aware that Brian was utilizing Theo more than I thought he would.

I asked Mr. Roosevelt, “Is the sailing trip already planned?”

“No, I have done nothing because I didn’t know if everyone would be interested. Jack, will you check into it for me.” I nodded as Al handed me the coupon.

After a wonderful Christmas dinner that Minnie had prepped. I grilled a Chateaubriand and cooked asparagus with hollandaise sauce, garlic mashed potatoes, a green salad that Theo dressed. For dessert Minnie had left us a red velvet cake that was decadently rich. We drank wine and champagne except for Theo who stuck with his gassy water. After the dishes were cleared Theo and I excused ourselves to go to Theo’s apartment. We agreed with Al to meet him at the gym late morning the next day.

While we were working out Brian showed up. We were pleasant and continued our routine. I suggested to Theo that he watch Brian and see what he liked to look at. He confirmed, what I had seen before, that Brian’s eyes spend time watching muscle boys. One of the muscle boys was a guy I recognized from college. I didn’t know him well but we regularly passed one another going to the one class we had together. When we were in the locker room I asked the fellow, “Didn’t you go to James Madison?”

He looked at me surprised and said, “You’re from Petersburg, right?”

Standing naked with his bulging muscles in front of me I said, “How the hell did you remember that?”

“We walked past each other every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, right?”

“Yes, once you were wearing a Petersburg letter jacket. Do you remember I stopped you and said ‘my grandparents live in Petersburg.”

“I don’t remember, but anyway I’m Jack and you are?”

“Jason Devereux, I’m one of the trainers here.”

After I acknowledged him Theo came up to me looking cute as a bunny. He pulled me into the shower room as Jason stood watching. I turned around and saw him still naked talking to Brian Murdoc. We quickly showered since Al had gone home to shower and get ready for our lunch. As we were drying Brian came up, “So you know Jason from college.” I nodded. “He’s my trainer and what a body.” I smiled confirming what I thought.

We were dressed when Brian returned but before we left he said, “What are you boys doing New Year’s Eve. I’m having a little party you’re invited.” He handed me a fancy name card with his address embossed on it. I saw he lived in the Watergate.

After leaving the gym Theo and I met Al at Logan Tavern. Curtis didn’t join us because he had a family event to attend. Usually Al attended with him but in this case Al told us he didn’t like the relatives Curtis was visiting. As the conversation continued I asked Al if he knew anything about Brian’s personal life and he didn’t. I said, “This morning at the gym Brian seemed to be eyeing the muscle boys. Did you notice?

Al looked puzzled, “So you’re thinking he may be into guys?”

“Maybe. He invited us to his New Year ’s Eve party in the Watergate. Did he say anything to you?”

“No, but that’s OK because Curtis and I have plans.” I knew they weren’t going out and assumed they were staying home to watch festivities on the television.

I didn’t confirm Brian’s invitation until Theo and I had a chance to talk. Knowing that Theo could travel out of the country on his student visa I described a plan that would allow Theo to go with us on the sailing trip and not upset Brian. The plan involved finding out if Brian liked more than just looking at the muscle boys. We decided we would go to Brian’s party but arrive late and leave as soon as it was appropriate. If we sensed that his interest was more than that of a spectator we would invite him over with Jason if he was available so we could find out for sure.

We showed up at the Watergate and had to go through elaborate security procedures before being admitted. Brian’s condo had a magnificent view of the Washington Monument from his floor to ceiling windows. As I expected Jason was there with two of his muscled friends, an older male couple and us. Jason’s dining table was covered with many canapés, sushi and sashimi, roast beef on tiny rolls and multiple chocolate goodies. There was enough food for a party three times our group’s size. I was surprised how much the muscle boys ate. I did get a chance to ask Jason if he would like to join Theo and me for dinner some time. He smiled, “I thought you and Theo were more than roommates.” I nodded and he smiled knowingly.

I knew we had to do this dinner shortly after the New Year because our schedules would get crazy again after the session started. The Martin Luther King weekend was our best option. I told Theo he had to delay making any plans for the Taiwan trip until we had Brian and Jason over. That happened on the Saturday night of the MLK weekend at Theo’s apartment. I had invited Al and Mr. Roosevelt but was happy when they declined. Based on Jason’s reaction the night of Brian’s party I explained that Theo worked for Brian but we assumed he knew that. Jason gave me the answer I hoped for, “Yeah.”

I said, “Could you be more than friendly with Brian?”

“You mean get into his pants?”

“I don’t know how far he’ll go with Theo and me around. Take it as far as you’re comfortable.”

“Don’t worry I find Brian really hot. He has the biggest dick.”

“The end game is getting you and Brian to agree to go sailing with us in the Caribbean over spring break.”

“Man, I’d love to but I don’t have money to do something like that.”

“Our objective is to get Brian to pay for airfare and the sailing trip. Who knows he might take you home with him.” We laughed. I felt Jason was on board.

The plan worked just as I had imagined. I had seen Jason at the gym several times coaching Brian. Brian seemed to be spending more time looking at Jason’s stuff than concentrating on his reps. Theo reported that Brian asked regularly if he had made reservations for Taiwan. Theo kept telling him how busy he was dealing with our group. Theo invited Brian to have dinner with us. Theo reported that Brian seemed surprised. When Theo told him Jason was also coming Brian quickly accepted.

Dinner was simple pasta with marinara sauce, salad and wine. Almost from the moment Brian arrived Jason was massaging Brian’s shoulders. Brian seemed stiff at the beginning but his excitement was evident from his trousers. As Theo and I lingered in the kitchen cleaning up I could see Jason unbuttoning Brian’s shirt. When we couldn’t delay any further we went in to find Jason on his knees in front of Brian’s open pants. He didn’t even look our direction. Jason lifted his head and smiled, “Mind if we use your bedroom?”

“Go right ahead.” Jason pulled Brian up from the sofa with his dick still sticking out of his pants. Theo and I were bad boys because Jason didn’t close the door completely so we could see the two naked men. Jason went after Brian’s asshole with rare enthusiasm. We watched for a few minutes but Theo pulled me away. We sat listening to the manly sounds coming from our bedroom. There was quiet until Brian came out dressed.

Brian looked at us with a scowl on his face, “You guys set up this sting, didn’t you.”

“We just thought you would like to have dinner with Jason and us.”

“That’s a bunch of bullshit.” He smiled, “But, Gawd, what a body he has.”

“And we could see at the gym you admired his body. We just thought you might like to get to know him a little better.”

Jason walked in wrapped in a towel. “Brian, you OK?”

“Fucking fine, thanks to you.”

“You aren’t upset are you?”

“No, but I’m pissed I was so easily deceived. I’m supposed to be the one doing the deceiving. When will we be work out again?”

“You mean the kind of workout we had tonight?”

“No, I mean really. I’ve got to go to my girlfriend’s… Text me when you’re available.” He whipped his coat on and put on his hat. We weren’t quite sure whether he was mad or just late.”

Jason looked at us and said, “Girlfriend?” We all laughed.

Needless to say Brian happily accepted Al and Mr. Roosevelt’s invitation to join the sail. He asked if he could bring a guest. He was told only a male guest. He said that was fine. When Al told us we smiled at each other.
