…And the Angel Wept

Chapter 8

Marcus had sensed that their relationship was changing, but until Piet spoke out, he didn’t realize how greatly it had altered. He was hurt, and there were tears in his eyes. He had seriously contemplated becoming mortal and spending his life with Piet. Now he began to realize that his relationship with the boy had been a mistake, and that caused a problem.

“I’m sorry, Piet,” he said. “No, I don’t know what it’s like. In fact, the longer I’m with you the less I think I understand about being a boy. What do you want me to do?”

Piet sighed, “I don’t know what I want. I certainly appreciate what you did for me with Derek and the creep in the park, but I just wish I could think about things without you being right there.”

“The trouble is, Piet, if I never appeared to you again, if I never talked with you again, I’d still be with you, and you’d know it. I should never have appeared to you in the first place.” He took his friend in his arms and gently kissed him. “You know I love you, Piet, but I have to return to being just your angel. I may be around for thousands more years, but I will always remember you and pray for you.”

Startled, Piet asked, “You pray? To whom?”

“To the Creator, or whatever name you choose to use.”

They stood looking at each other for a long time. At last, Piet said, “I’m gonna miss you.”

“And I’m gonna miss you. But you know, if you ever need help again, you can just think my name and I’ll be there.” And with that, Marcus vanished.

Piet sighed and lay on his bed for a long time thinking about what had just happened. He knew that Marcus would be watching over him, but he would never feel that companionship again.

As he lay, he thought of Aaron. He wondered if Marcus was steering his thoughts. He rose from the bed and went to the phone in the kitchen. He sat and called Aaron, asking him to come to his house. “I have a very strange story to tell you,” he said.

When Aaron arrived, the boys sat on Piet’s bed together, and Piet began to talk about Marcus. “Can you believe I’ve seen and talked with an angel?”

Aaron shook his head.

“Well, the first time I saw him was after my father murdered my dog, Alex.”

“Wait. You had a dog and your father killed it?”

“Yeah,” said Piet. “I was really angry and sad. That was when the angel Marcus first appeared to me. He convinced me that killing my father or myself wasn’t the answer, and then he helped me find where to live. All he had to do was hold my hand and think and we’d immediately be somewhere else. We visited some of my siblings, but nobody would take me until I talked with Art and Doug. Two times Marcus even took me to a place called Elysium, which the Greeks believed was where the deserving people went to live after they died.”

“I’ve heard of it,” said Aaron.

“I saw Alex there, and he seemed happy.”

“Wow!”

“Anyway, after I got here everything was okay until I started school and ran into Derek. Do you know what happened to him?”

Aaron shook his head. “He seems like a nice guy,” he observed.

“He is now. But on my first day of school, I went into the restroom after lunch and he and a couple of his goons were there. He tried to force me to give him a blowjob.”

”Oh, God,” said Aaron.

Piet told about how Marcus made Derek’s cock and balls disappear as Aaron laughed. Then Piet told about the creep in the park.

“So, he really looks out for you.”

“Yeah, but just today I got really angry at him because he made a comment. It wasn’t even a bad one, but it was about my relationship with you. I suddenly realized the bad side of having someone always in my head, always watching, and I blew up. I chewed him out and really upset him. Anyway, we made peace. I know he’s still with me. I’m sure he's listening to us talk.

“We reached an agreement, though, that he would still be watching out for me but he wouldn’t appear to me anymore.”

For a long time, Aaron hadn’t believed Piet, but when he talked about Derek and later about the man in the park, it began to make sense to him.

“So where is he now?” asked Aaron.

“Probably right here, listening, but the thing you need to know is that you have an angel too.”

“I do?”

“Yup. Apparently, everyone does. I still haven’t figured out just what they’re supposed to do, but they’re not supposed to appear to their human the way Marcus did. You’ve just never seen your angel, but he’s most likely right here with Marcus.”

“So whatever we do, they’re watching?”

“Yeah.”

“You mean, if I jerk off, my angel will be watching?”

“Yeah, but they’re not judgmental. That’s not their job. They’re just around to help us sometimes.”

“Let’s see what they think of this.” Aaron leaned into Piet and kissed him on the mouth. “Will they like that?”

“Oh, my,” said Piet. “I don’t care what they think. I loved it. Don’t tell me you’re gay.”

Aaron nodded.

“Why didn’t you tell me when I came out to you?”

“Well, I wasn’t sure then, and I didn’t want to spoil things. Piet, do you have feelings for me?”

“Absolutely.”

“And you don’t care if they’re watching?”

“Look, Aaron. Marcus is over two thousand years old, so I’m sure this wouldn’t be the first time he saw two boys exploring each other. Remember, he doesn’t judge. He just doesn’t want me doing anything that will end up with me being hurt.”

Piet gave Aaron a long and passionate kiss. When Aaron responded, Piet’s tongue began to explore Aaron’s lips. The boy opened his mouth. Their two tongues met and loved each other. Soon they were tonguing and sucking as though they’d been doing it all their lives.

Piet grasped the bottom of Aaron’s shirt and pulled it off over his head. Then he removed his own.

Aaron moved so that they were facing each other on the bed. “I’ve wanted to do this for a long time,” he said, “ever since we started exercising and showering together.” He began to rub his hand gently over Piet’s back. When Piet didn’t tell him to stop, he ran his other hand over his friend’s chest and then his stomach.

Turning to him, Piet did the same for Aaron. Slowly, they moved off the bed and unfastened each other’s jeans, which dropped to the floor. Underwear immediately followed. Almost before they knew it, they were both naked and handling one another’s penises, groaning quietly with pleasure as they did so. They could both feel the tension rising in their groins. Piet pushed Aaron gently back on the bed and then lay on top of him. He began grinding cock against cock. They reached climaxes almost simultaneously.

“Oh God, Piet, that was wonderful.”

Piet nodded, but then he became alert. He had heard a car pull into the driveway. Quickly, he grabbed a box of tissues, handing some to Aaron. As soon as they were cleaned up, they put on their clothes. When they were ready, they bounded downstairs where they found Art.

The man greeted them and asked, “What have you been up to?”

“Oh,” said Piet, “just talking.”

“I bet,” said Art.

The boys looked at each other and giggled nervously. Art joined in and when Doug came in, he found them all laughing. When he asked what they had been laughing about, Art said he’d tell him later.

The men decided they needed to talk with the boys. They asked Piet to bring Aaron home from school with him the following day for supper.

The boys knew something was up, but they had no idea what. When they were all seated in the living room, the boys with sodas and the men with wine, Art said, “Boys, we need to talk a little.”

The boys looked at each other questioningly.

“We’re pretty sure we know what you’ve been up to,” he continued.

A little shudder of fear went up Piet’s spine. Would the men throw him out after all this time he wondered?

“Boys, we know you have been having sex upstairs. I guess my question would be are you just getting your rocks off or do you really care for each other?”

“We care a lot for each other,” said Aaron quietly.

“Okay then,” Art said. “We have no objections to what you’re doing, and you don’t need to keep any secrets from us, so you can both stop worrying.”

The boys giggled with relief.

Art continued, “We just want you to be very careful not to hurt each other. I don’t know whether you call this love, but whatever you call it, it’s a close relationship and so you need to listen to each other, take care of each other, and above all be honest with each other.”

“Yes, sir,” they both answered.

“Now come here,” said Doug, “and give us hugs and then we’ll have supper.”

Afterword

All through high school, the boys remained together. When they went off to different colleges, they weren’t able to maintain their relationship, although they always had special memories of their first love. They found new lovers, married, and became productive, happy men who just happened to love other men.

Marcus looked on Piet, who had said that the angels didn’t judge them. He was very happy for his boy and of course remained with him for the rest of Piet’s long life.
